The Astana Metro is a planned (under construction) light rail rapid transit system located in Astana, Kazakhstan, which is the capital of the country with a population of about 750,000. The construction of the system should be finished roughly about the same time as the Almaty Metro will be, which is estimated at 2010. When one travels to these two cities of Kazakhstan, one can see signs and buildings with commissions and offices labelled by Almaty Metro or Astana Metro.
This is also part of Nazarbayev's Kazakhstan 2030 economic plan to make Kazakhstan a powerful economic land and country. Astana has been undergoing much construction since the capital change in 1997.
Currently, there is only one metro system operating in Almaty.
